Many Voices, One Global Community

The International Community of Unitarians and Universalists is reborn β€” a truly independent, globally governed body connecting Unitarian, Universalist, and UU communities across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, North America, and Oceania.

Our Purpose

🎯 Mission

To strengthen and connect global Unitarian, Universalist, and UU communities through cooperative leadership, shared spiritual practice, and coordinated action that advances justice, human dignity, and intercultural understanding.

🌍 Vision

A world in which diverse UU communities flourish, collaborate across borders, and contribute meaningfully to global efforts promoting compassion, equity, and peace.

Why the ICUU is Needed Now More Than Ever

The ICUU is being reestablished as an independent, globally governed non-profit organisation. Drawing on the legacy of the original ICUU (1995–2021), it will deliberately correct the structural weaknesses that led to the initial dissolution.

Emerging UU communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Europe require a peer-based global forum β€” not just a US denomination's outreach arm. No other international Unitarian or UU structure currently accepts national organisations as members, leaving a clear, unmet need for a genuine membership-based international body.

Having secured the original icuu.org domain, the revived ICUU is positioned to reclaim the historical trust of the global network that the original organisation built over 26 years β€” charting an entirely independent course free from dependency on any single national body.

We Didn't Forget You

In the early 1990s, the Iron Curtain had just fallen. For the first time in decades, Unitarian villages in Transylvania β€” communities whose faith had survived war, dictatorship, and cultural suppression β€” could speak openly to the world again. And when they opened their doors, they found Unitarian Universalists from North America standing there, saying simply:

"We didn't forget you."

These first encounters were small, human moments β€” letters exchanged, photos mailed, ministers who visited each other's pulpits. But the emotional power was enormous. Congregations that had been isolated for generations suddenly discovered they had cousins across an ocean.

A new day has emerged for all those longing for the return of the ICUU and UUPCC.

We did not forget you.

Our Core Values

✏️

Freedom of Conscience

Every person has the inherent right to seek truth and meaning in their own way. We impose no creed, no required belief, and no doctrinal test for belonging.

❀️

Human Dignity

Every human being possesses worth that is unconditional and non-negotiable, across every culture, language, and tradition represented in our global family.

🌍

Global Solidarity

We are one movement across many nations. We stand with communities facing hardship, persecution, or isolation β€” their flourishing is our shared responsibility.

πŸ‘₯

Democratic Community

We govern ourselves through the participation of all, not the authority of a few. Decisions are made together, and power is held accountable to the people it serves.

βš–οΈ

Justice & Compassionate Action

Faith without action is incomplete. We commit to working for justice β€” for the poor, the marginalised, the displaced, and the planet itself.

πŸ•

Radical Inclusion

There is no condition of culture, language, theology, geography, age, or identity that places any individual beyond the circle of this community.

πŸ’‘

Courageous Integrity

We say what we mean and do what we promise.

Need a Partner Church?

ICUU's Partner Church Matching Program exists to help congregations around the world find one another, build lasting relationships, and deepen the global expression of Unitarian values.

With the dissolution of the former Partner Church Council, many communities were left without a clear pathway to begin or continue these relationships. ICUU is stepping forward to fill that gap.
